Can change so many people's lives, for the better, without even realizing. Today, I realized this, for the first time. A little over a week ago, one of my friend's Dad passed away. This man, Kevin Gibbins, is the former mayor of Bendigo. At his public memorial service today, I sat with Nicole, Kathleen, Ryan, Sam, Jordan, and Mitch's girlfriend. Through the whole service, we sat and listened to others talk about all the things he did in his short life. When he was 12, he had to look after his younger siblings, after the death of their father. He joined the police force. in 1973. He became the mayor of Bendigo in 2008-2009.
The thing that touched me most, today, was when Mitch and his brother, both spoke about their father. He was such a loving man, and he changed the lives of every single person around him. He cared about every single person in this town, and he was a firm believer in the under-dog. After tha Black Saturday fires, he showed absolutely amazing leadership, here. I only met him once or twice, but Cr. Gibbins was an amazing man. Such a horrible loss. I am so sorry to Mitch and his extended family. Thinking of you all.
